The Great Wake-Up Challenge Update: March Edition

The great, wake up early challenge is going much better in its third month. Here are the results so far:

As of March 2nd, my median wake-up time is now less than my goal of 5:15. Math-nerd translation: I’ve gotten up before 5:15 more than half of the time since I started keeping track.
As I mentioned in the previous update, setting up a workspace outside of my bedroom makes it easier to resist the temptation of returning to bed.
This month, I’ve figured out a second helpful trick: If you want to wake up early, your alarm clock should not be in reach of your bed. I moved my alarm clock to across the room. Physically getting out of bed is the toughest problem in the morning. If you know that the alarm isn’t turning off until you get out of bed, you have no choice but to leave the warm blankets and face the cold room and be pulled into allertness. There is a company that makes a crazy alarm clock that actually runs away from you to accomplish the same idea, but that may be a bit overkill.
Also I want to again thank the people who are the biggest help: those following and supporting me on twitter.

Nice one, keep it up.
Honestly though, I would vote you try your best to ditch the alarm clock entirely. Waking up naturally’s supposedly a lot better for you in terms of health and productivity. Perhaps more importantly, alarm clocks are horrid!
Oh, and try just opening your curtains for a few nights to see how receptive you are for waking up just to the sun. I’ve been trying that for the last week or so and found that I could drop the alarm within a couple of days. That said, sunrise is a bit later than you’d like to be getting up at the moment, and the clock’s will go back and worsen that in a few days, so I don’t know.
